Iván Fischer conducts Mahler's Fifth Symphony

info

The Fifth is the most popular of Gustav Mahler's symphonies — primarily because of its famous Adagietto, a musical declaration of love to Mahler's future wife Alma. The work leads through contrasting emotional worlds: grief and confidence, fear of life and zest for life, doubt and tenderness. Conducting this performance is Iván Fischer, one of the most important Mahler conductors of our time, celebrated for his interpretations that are both transparent and emotional. Joseph Haydn's Sinfonia Concertante kicks off: Four soloists from the Berliner Philharmoniker enter into a virtuoso dialogue with the orchestra — charming and full of humor.
