info

Nature as a mirror of the soul: star baritone Christian Gerhaher interprets two full-toned, melancholy singing scenes that show this interrelationship. On the one hand, he can be seen in “The Lonely in Autumn” from Mahler's Song of the Earth, and on the other hand in a wonderful discovery by Mahler's highly appreciated Alphons Diepenbrock. From him we hear the orchestral song Im großen Schweigen, in which a person by the sea muses about the limits of language and thought. In his “Grand” Symphony in C major, Franz Schubert ignites the entire emotional spectrum of Romanticism, from exuberant joy to deep despair. Markus Poschner makes his debut with the Berliner Philharmoniker on the podium.
