A Christmas oratorio à la française. In L'Enfance du Christ, Hector Berlioz tells the story after the birth of Jesus: the visit of the Magi to the cruel King Herod and the flight of the Holy Family to Egypt, where they finally find refuge. Berlioz's music combines operatic drama with silent devotion, bright orchestral colors with magnificent choirs. The work brought the composer a great success. With him, Maxime Pascal, Principal Guest Conductor of the Deutsche Oper Berlin, makes his debut with the Berliner Philharmoniker.
