Antonín Dvořák became famous for the folkloric Bohemian echoes in his music. With his Seventh Symphony, he showed himself from a completely different side: none of his symphonies have been as dark, melancholy and combative as this. On the other hand, Max Bruch's First Violin Concerto, the composer's most famous work, impresses with beguiling heartfelt melodies and elegant virtuosity. The solo part is performed by Pinchas Zukerman, who, like conductor Zubin Mehta, has been associated with the Berliner Philharmoniker for decades. The evening opens with Mozart's lively overture to the opera Le nozze di Figaro.
