Cousins Paul and Bruno Cassirer — publishers and art dealers — are an integral part of Berlin's cultural life at the beginning of the 20th century. They did groundbreaking things.
Without her unmistakable instinct for outstanding talent, the literary path of Else Lasker-Schüler, Christian Morgenstern, Robert Walser or Ernst Toller, for example, would have been different.
Both Paul and Bruno Cassirer promoted all these writers before they became known to the public. In the field of visual art, they were vehemently committed to Impressionism and its dissemination, bringing together painters such as Max Liebermann, Max Slevogt and Lovis Corinth around them.
The fact that the great actress Tilla Durieux — Paul Cassirer's wife for several years — stood on the boards of the Renaissance theatre creates an additional bond between the name Cassirer and this wonderful stage.
