Biedermann's outrage at the arsonists, who have been setting fires everywhere for some time now, is great — at least at the bar regulars' table and on social media. However, as soon as they arrive at his front door, they are politely invited in, even though they make no secret of what they are up to. You do have manners. You're not an inhuman either, after all, they're just two harmless peddlers. And if not, it's better not to make an enemy of them. You don't want to afford that, even though you can afford (almost) anything else. Written as a political parable, the piece aims at a mindset that helps the destructive achieve success. How does it happen? For what reasons, why and by whom are impulses of insight simply pushed away?
About the event
Director Fritzi Wartenberg, born in 1997, openly admits how caught she feels by Frisch's lyrics, which he first wrote down in 1948 as a burlesque prose sketch and later converted into a play. Wartenberg is co-founder of the FTZN collective and received the Helene Weigel Theatre Prize as part of the WORX young talent promotion program at the Berliner Ensemble.
