Josh Edwards, as the British singer and songwriter is called in civil, has travelled in South America as a child, read Spanish at university, and his stage name is inspired by the Spanish writer José María Blanco White. He has also studied flamenco guitar in Spanish Cádiz and traveled to Bolivia to learn to play the South American stringed instrument charango.
The result is beautiful folk songs that wear the emotion out of the shirt - both in the melancholic melodies and in the rhythmic passion of flamenco. In 2023, the form-complete sequel Tarifa was released via the acclaimed label Nettwerk (Coldplay, Sarah McLachlan, Barenaked Ladies). Here Edwards shows new compositional and evocative sides of Blanco White's songwriting talent, not unlike loners such as Feist and Sufjan Stevens.
In addition to heavy concert activity, 2025 featured two new tracks, “Fish in the Reeds” and “So Certain (Something Reminds Me)”. In 2027, Blanco White will return to the country to give a concert in DR Koncerthuset's Studio 3 - and I wonder if he will be releasing more new tracks by then.
