BLED — Emil Miszk and Sławek Koryzno

The organizers of the 7th Cinematika Film Festival invite you to a unique event — a live concert to the classics of silent cinema. The BLED duo consisting of drummer Sławek Koryzno and trumpeter, arranger and jazz composer Emil Miszek, winner of the Fryderyk Award, returns to the Cinematika Festival to prepare an original musical setting of one of the greatest masterpieces of the silent cinema era, “The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari”, inspired by Tim Burton, David Lynch and Christopher Noll The one.

“The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari” is one of the earliest works of German film expressionism, from 1920 directed by Robert Wienia, which had a great influence on the development of cinematography. It is recognized as one of the first horror films, which were inspired by the greatest authors of modern cinema.

The film takes place in the imaginary town of Holstenwall in northern Germany. One day a hypnotist, Dr. Caligari, arrives, presenting a somnambulist predicting the future in amusement parks. He must obtain permission for his shows at the town hall; there, however, he is rudely treated by one of the officials. On the same night, an unkind official dies stabbed to death by a mysterious murderer...

The Gdańsk duo is very strongly inspired by the classics of sci-fi cinema, combining ambient minimalism with inspirations from African and Asian sounds and jazz music. The band specializes in creating long, immersive musical forms that allow listeners to pause and immerse themselves in their own thoughts. In a world full of stimuli and short-term attention, the duo deliberately proposes songs that are simple in structure but engaging on an emotional and intellectual level.

The Cinematika Festival has been bringing the pearls of silent cinema back to life for years, presenting them in fresh, original musical interpretations.
