From Antwerp's indie roots to Ideal Bar's intimate setting

Bluai brings their upcoming album The Way You Sound Reminds Me to VEGA and signs up to pamper the crowd at Ideal Bar.

With roots in indie folk and alternative pop, the Antwerp-based trio - made up of Catherine Smet, Mo Govaerts and Caitlin Talbut - have moved in just a few years from a promising Belgian name to a recognised live band on the international stage.

The project had its fledgling start in Catherine Smet's teenage bedroom. Nearly seven years later, Bluai emerged as a band, and here the intimate beginnings were translated into a shared sound, marked by shared musical inspirations and a strong sense of togetherness onstage.

Already within the first year, the trio won Belgium's three leading music competitions, among them Studio Brussels De Nieuwe Lichting. It threw off national radio coverage and festival jobs, and since then Bluai has stuck to both the Belgian radio stations and the live scene. At the same time, the band generated international attention with a series of showcase concerts around Europe and the UK, and they were referred to as a “band to watch” in both Rolling Stone UK and The Independent.

After an extensive tour with their 2024 debut album Save It For Later, the trio is now ready for the next chapter.

The sound is still intimate and present, but at the same time more direct — not least shaped by the many hours the band has spent together on the road and on stage.

So you can look forward to an evening where Bluai tries boundaries, but without losing what started it all: great songs, close interplay and a strong presence on stage.
