How have artists and naturalists looked at the plant world for centuries? Why do ancient botanical illustrations delight to this day not only with precision of execution, but also with extraordinary attentiveness to nature?
We invite you to the workshop, which will be an opportunity to learn about the history of botanical illustration and look at the engravings presented at the exhibition as a result of the combination of science and art — faithful observation of the world of plants and admiration for the richness of life forms.
Working with the image, participants will learn to perceive the proportions, rhythms, textures and details of plants, developing the skill of careful observation that has been the common language of science and art for centuries. The result of the workshop will be botanical drawings made by own hands.
The workshop refers to the idea of the exhibition Body of the Earth, Our Bodies, showing the dialogue between ancient and modern ways of depicting nature. The tools and means of expression change, but the curiosity, attentiveness and delight that allow us to better understand the world of plants still remain unchanged.
