About the event

This week, the host of the evening — drummer Michał Gos invited the founder of Ocza Cziorne to collaborate: pianist Jowita Cieślikiewicz and flutist Anna Miądowicz, as well as Maciej Jeleniewski — bassist, composer and music producer, who has been associated with the band for years.

This time, the musicians will perform without vocals, ready-made tracks and a previously established script. It will be a meeting closer to a musical experiment than to jazz improvisation. Its direction and final shape will emerge only on the stage of the BOTO Theater.

Oczy Chiorne was formed at the end of the 80s. The first line-up consisted exclusively of women, which was rare on the music scene at that time. From the beginning, it was difficult to attribute the team to a single genre. Different styles met in his music, and the song form often became the starting point for further exploration.

The band performed at the Nowa Sceny festivals in Tricity, and also appeared in Jarocin, Opole and Sopot. In 1990, he won the first prize at the Miss Rock Europe festival in Kiev. Oczy Cziorne have two studio albums, a concert release, several EPs and a vinyl reissue of their debut. The history of the group has also found its place in the permanent exhibition of the Granary of Polish Rock in Jarocin.

The female pedigree remains an important part of the history of Ochi Cziorne, although over the years the composition of the band has changed, and other artists have been invited to play together. Among them were Tomek Sowiński, Olo Walicki, Jacek Olter, Mikołaj Trzaska, Antoni “Ziut” Gralak, Irek Wojtczak, Tomek Gadecki, Mariusz Jeka, Paulina Owczarek and Małgorzata Tekiel.A special place is occupied by the band's long-standing friendship with Marcin Święlicki, followed by joint concerts and EPs. -ka “Crime Story”.

Years later, the story of Oczy Cziorne returned in Magdalena Czubaszek's book “You Will Be Screaming”, dedicated to the women of the Polish music scene of the 80s and 90s. In addition to the stories about the backstage of the band's formation, it includes the personal experiences of the artists who tried to create on their own terms and find a place for themselves in an environment dominated by men.

In 1994 Michał Gos joined the team. Years later, on his initiative, the band turned to improvisation and the joint search for new sounds. The record of these meetings is the material recorded in the studio, which will be released on vinyl in a collector's edition.

The performance at the BOTO Theater will be a continuation of these searches.

BOTO Jams are weekly, Thursday meetings with live improvisation and leading artists of the jazz scene in Pomerania and Poland. To ensure the highest level of musical feast possible, each jam has a different host who invites professional musicians to play together.
