Staging based on the themes of Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale
“The Ugly Duckling” — one of the world's most famous fairy tales by Hans Christian Andersen — returns to the stage of the Puppet Theatre in a beautiful, surprising version.
In the heart of the city grows an unusual Magic Tree — quite ordinary during the day, and so large at night that it covers the city, rivers, roads and even the entire Universe. This is what buzzes and tells the story of an ugly duckling — a strange, mismatched duck in the flock, with gray feathers and a strange voice that sounds like a broken string. To be a duck, you have to be able to bring out a decent “kwa”! “Ugly duckling. A Fairy Tale for New Times” directed by Wawrzyńec Kostrzewski and written by Małgorzata Sikorska-Miszczuk — a duo known for their artistically tasteful productions — is a story of growing up, shame, great courage, and opposition to being defined by someone else's gaze. Reflection on what we call “ugliness” here becomes a gesture of solidarity with anyone who has heard at least once: “there is something wrong with you”.
