Amber Truso — reinterpretations. Exhibition opening

The Archaeological and Historical Museum in Elbląg and the Association of Maritime Towns and Communities cordially invite you to the opening of the exhibition “Amber Truso — reinterpretations”.

The idea of the exhibition is to show amber in a contemporary interpretation and its relationship with nature, man and cultural exchange. Amber becomes not only a commercial raw material, a craft material and a symbol of contacts between cultures, but with the help of contemporary artists and designers, it creates a dialogue between the archaeological past and the contemporary language of art and design.

The exhibition will feature exhibits from the Amber Museum in Gdańsk, mainly jewelry and examples of masterful craftsmanship and design from the 1960s to the present.

There will also be presented works by Daria Burkowska from Dorbur Studio, amber maker and artist, who creates jewelry from Baltic amber, and Emilia Kohut, artist from Gdynia, creator of ION brand, whose designs combine Baltic tradition with modern design.

The representative of the contemporary view of the local amber industry will be Elbląg creator, Tomasz Kargul, jewelry designer, creator of the KARGUL.TO brand and winner of the title Amber of the Year 2024. In his studio in Elbląg he designs and makes jewelry with natural Baltic amber, silver and gold, and his works are distinguished by simple, geometric design, inspired by Scandinavian design, architecture and logical thinking about the object.

The eponymous Truso will represent the works of foreign designers, created during the international amber workshops in Gdańsk, which has become a place of exchange of ideas related to amber, just like Truso in the past. The opening of the exhibition will take place on Friday 9 October at 12:00 in the Gymnasium Building of the Archaeological and Historical Museum in Elbląg. The exhibition will last until January 8, 2027.
