The play “I Was Bob Marley's Wife” is a musical reggae story about Rita Marley, a woman who for sixteen years was married to the biggest music star born in Jamaica, but also a pop culture icon, to this day stimulating the imagination of young and old rebels against the evil and injustice of the world.
Despite the historical references, the creators of the play are primarily interested in the portrait of a woman who, living next to an internationally famous husband, tries to free herself from dependence on him and find her own way by searching for an answer to the question: who am I? In Rita Marley, we have seen the features of a modern woman, maturing to an awareness of her rights and her individuality.
“I Was Bob Marley's Wife” is also a story about a difficult love that provokes questions about the limits of devotion, sacrifice, tolerance. It is a story of love all the more difficult because it is sometimes confined within the narrow framework of the Jamaican Christian Rastafari movement.
