A monumental spectacle based on two novels by an Italian writer, journalist and diplomat who changed political alliances from fascism to communism and described the most tragic events of the 20th century. Malaparte was a cultural attaché in Warsaw in the 1920s, and during World War II a correspondent on the Eastern Front (e.g. in Poland, Romania, Finland and the Balkans).
In his play, Krystian Lupa looks at the transformations of modern Europe and the role of great personalities in political and social processes. It places the action on Capri, the island where dreamers, rulers and revolutionaries fled, including Emperor Tiberius, Lenin, Gorky, George Bernard Shaw and Rilke, among others.

Director's announcement:
Emperor Tiberius, Jesus Christ... Jean Luc Godard, Fritz Lang, Brigitte Bardot — Contempt. Here Jean Luc Godard ordered in his film “Contempt” to shoot scenes from his stubborn vision of the Odyssey, on the terrace of Casa Malaparte, Odysseus in the last shot of the film had to see his native Ithaca. However, since the death of the producer interrupted this journey, the journey of Odysseus, the journey of Fritz Lang, the journey of Jean Luc Godard — Odysseus stays in this house with the film crew... Here, in the confusion, in the synthesis of times, all come together...
The island and the house on the island. Asylum, shelter. We are fleeing the monster of Europe. Before the state, before religion, before dictatorship, before democracy, before the Monster of Homo Christianis, before war... House of Malapartego, Villa Tiberius, House of San Michele... Outside there is an indefinite war going on, it is not known whether this is the first, second or third world war, the result of the madness of modern man, the pride of the creators of political and social systems, the dreamers of a HUMAN PARADISE, PHILOSOPHICAL CRIMINALS AND FANTASTICS, drug addicts of power... Cultural reformers, and so on...
This house is a prison... This house is a refuge... This house is the Archetype of the HOUSE. THIS HOUSE IS A SECRET. This house is an artist's cave... THIS HOUSE IS THE PLACE OF A SPIRITUALISTIC SEANCE, A MEETING OF GHOSTS... THIS HOUSE IS THE PLACE OF THE SPIRITUALISTIC SEANCE OF THE DREAMERS OF THE NEW MAN...
