CARMEN - JUBILEE 60TH ANNIVERSARY

Opera in four acts. Performance in French with Polish subtitles.

Bizet once wrote that if there were no adultery, fanaticism, crime, evil and supernatural powers in the world, composers would have nothing to write their operas about. That doesn't change the fact that CARMEN — a tale of sexual obsession and inevitable murder for love — initially caused dismay in Parisian viewers, unaccustomed to such a daring combination of comic and tragic elements. The controversial subject and the unacceptable mixing of comic and tragic elements at the time contributed to a very cool reception of the opera during the premiere in Paris. Today, listening to one of the most beautiful operas in the history of music, it is very difficult to believe it.

The combination of Bizet's extraordinary, temperamental and brilliant music and a top-class libretto resulted in a work that was brilliant in every way. The composer created a work full of tension, delighting with an exotic image of a mysterious, and yet not so much for a distant Frenchman — Spain.

The performance is co-financed by the operational program of the Ministry of Culture “Promotion of creativity”.
