About the event

Wikipedia turns 25 in 2026. To mark the milestone, Professor Dame Wendy Hall FRS, Director of the Web Science Institute at the University of Southampton, and Jimmy Wales, co-founder of Wikipedia, bring together leaders from technology, policy, research, media and the open knowledge community to ask what comes next for the open web.

Co-hosted by the Wikimedia Foundation, the Web Science Institute and the Royal Society, the event explores how AI is changing the way knowledge is created, accessed and reused, how we protect the digital commons, and what responsible reuse should mean for industry, policymakers and the institutions that look after shared knowledge. The programme includes a keynote, panel discussions and a closing conversation between Dame Wendy Hall and Jimmy Wales.
