Chadi Abdul Karim, Palestinian/Danish actor, activist and musician, has for the past 25 years mainly been on stage under the auspices of the theatre as an actor and director. But the music has always been there. 30 years after he helped mark the beginning of Aarhus V-rap in the mid-90s under his alias C.A.K., he as CHADI released his debut album MONSTER in March.

MONSTER consists of 12 songs that blend spoken word, rap and song across trip-hop, rock, dark pop and hip hop. The lyrics are about anger, powerlessness and hope — about standing up to the power elite and finding strength in the community.

“To say that the album is not 'algorithm-friendly' would be an understatement,” says CHADI. “But in many ways it's very telling. It's not made for algorithms, it's made for humans. And we are complex and constantly filled with changing emotions. The songs are made for people who, regardless of music taste, skin color, gender or faith, know the feeling of anger, powerlessness, sadness and depression, which the album also reflects. It's not always pretty. It's raw and full of flaws and flaws, just like myself.” explains CHADI.

The album is produced without a budget or record label. It sounds like the cover looks: glitchy, dark, personal, without polish and without compromise.
