info

Jean Sibelius' violin concerto is a “signature piece” by Lisa Batiashvili. With her brilliant and heartfelt interpretation of the work, the violinist won 2nd prize in the Sibelius Competition (at just 16 years of age) and began her international career. This evening, the work is preceded by Lotta Wennaekoski's Verdigris — a shimmering wind drama and a subtle homage to Sibelius. Conductor Robin Ticciati and the Chamber Orchestra of Europe are also playing his famous Fifth Symphony on the 200th anniversary of Beethoven's death: A distinctive four-tone motif creates a thrilling musical cosmos that leads from darkness to light.
