Venue: Room B - Berlin, in the morning, a kitchen. Nina and Mark, who have been a couple for over 20 years, discuss the day ahead of them over breakfast together. Nina is a member of parliament and, in addition to her many other obligations, is working intensively to save a dilapidated women's emergency shelter from closure. Mark used to be a successful business lawyer, but after a burnout he switched to elementary school teachers and is struggling to find his way around his new job. After breakfast, they go their separate ways. Nina sets off to the emergency shelter and later to the office, where she is confronted with unexpected problems while Mark goes to school and finds herself in difficult situations with students and parents... In the evening, when Nina and Mark meet again at home, the experiences of the day have changed both of them and their relationship with each other. “changes” is a piece about the difficulty of changing the world for the better and the effort not to lose themselves in the process.. What compromises can you make without compromising yourself? How thin is the line between success and failure?
Thomas Ostermeier stages the new piece by Maja Zade, for which Anna Schudt and Jörg Hartmann return to the Schaubühne ensemble. The two play 23 characters: Nina and Mark as well as 21 others who meet the spouses on their respective journey through the day.
