You see a man crying. What emotions does it evoke in you? Reflexes? What comes to your mind when you pass a guy on the street who yawns? And do you ever meet guys like that? Are men's tears a deficit commodity? Public ones are rare. And can the private ones serve as the basis of a theatrical story?
“Guys Cry” is the title of the show — somewhere between spoiler and obviousness — but it's also a non-trivial message, requiring as frequent repetition as possible. Men's tears exist. Moreover, we all need them. We need, as a society, men who can show emotion. Therefore, we want to look closely at the moments in which we try, in front of ourselves and in front of others, to deny the existence of male tears. The reasons for these denials. The moments when a dam of fear, discomfort, shame, rigor and clenched teeth grows between the reason, the stimulus and the flowing tear.
We also want to look for cracks in this dam together. An emotional encounter in a male circle does not have to be stereotypical libation or rivalry. It can be an exchange of experiences, a chance to look at each other with understanding and consent to weakness, failure, and sometimes even a private catastrophe. An opportunity to discover new layers of sensitivity necessary to life — and sometimes to save it.
In the performance, flashing and contrasting light is used.
