The Boys from Miarki Square

Jonasz Boka, a modern forty-year-old, again stands in front of the house of Nemecko. Although the whole world has changed, the memories are still vivid: the faces of opponents are drawn sharply as then, the raised voices and laughter of friends are heard, and the smell of dust hovering over the battlefield is felt in the air. Emotional bruising also returns — guilt, remorse, and ordinary human sadness. Because whether we are on the streets of Budapest 120 years ago or today in one of Katowice's squares, we all make decisions whose echoes accompany us throughout our lives. Or is it not all lost yet?

Based on the prose of Ferenc Molnár, the show arises from the need to look anew at canonical history and at the same time from the desire to tell it from a different perspective, in a language compatible with the sensibilities of contemporary viewers. It is an attempt to see if values such as honor, courage, loyalty and friendship still have a place in today's yards and squares. Our ambition was to create a universal story that appeals to today's teenagers and adults alike. It is also an invitation to look at contemporary Katowice through the prism of the classics of youth literature.

The performance was created in cooperation with the People's Theatre in Cracow from the funds of the Kraków Municipal Municipality. The stage sketch presented as part of the Opening Festival at the Youth Theater Institute in December 2025 won the main prize awarded by the teenage audience.
