About the event

The film brings us closer to one of the most famous yet enigmatic figures who changed the history of music forever.

Paris, 1835. There is turmoil in Europe. Frédéric Chopin is 25 and the star of the city. He is celebrated in salons and at soirees and worshipped by the king. He is regarded as a musical genius who moves more with sensitive virtuosity than others with thunderous pathos. But there are shadows behind the radiant splendor: Chopin's health is fragile and his music — bold, sophisticated, poetic — shows a soul that is more melancholy than he reveals, inspired by the longing for his Polish homeland. Chopin falls in love with the writer George Sand, an unconventional, sharp-tongued and fearless voice of her time. With her, he experiences creative flights of fancy and painful crises. But his health is dwindling and the resulting seclusion affects the melancholy person's mind. The weaker his body becomes, the more determined his musical will becomes. In his late nocturnes and piano sonatas, Chopin bundles everything that defines him — longing, pride, vulnerability and an artistic freedom that is far ahead of its time.
