Concert as part of the XVII PalmJazz Festival.
The Choir of the Silesian Medical University in Katowice in a short time gained recognition as one of the most interesting young choral ensembles in Poland. Created on the initiative of students, the ensemble today consists of more than sixty singers, who are united by a passion for music and a high artistic level. Under the baton of Dr. Marta Zielińska, M.Sc. — conductor and medical graduate of the Medical University of Silesia — the choir regularly performs and wins prizes at national and international choral competitions.
The ensemble is distinguished by its openness to a diverse repertoire and attention to the highest quality of performance. In his programs, in addition to sacred and classical music, contemporary compositions also appear, requiring from the performers not only excellent technique, but also great musical sensitivity. Thanks to this, each concert of the choir has its own character and shows the wide possibilities of a young ensemble, which successfully combines precision of performance with natural expression.
The performance during the 17th PalmJazz International Jazz Festival will be an opportunity to meet the band, which proves that choral music is also perfectly found in the space of the festival open to diversity and artistic exploration. We invite you to the concert, which will certainly be an interesting and original event of this year's edition of the festival.
About the festival
The first edition of PalmJazz took place in 2010. Since then, the festival has developed its own character, becoming a meeting place for artists who do not follow the beaten path. The most important were always author's projects and creators consistently implementing their own artistic vision. Today, PalmJazz is a space where jazz meets world music, electronics, classics and projects that escape simple genre divisions.
The XVII edition once again compares the returns of outstanding artists with festival debuts. This year PalmJazz will be played in Gliwice, Tarnowskie Góra and Raciborz — concerts will take place at the Jazovia Cultural Centre, the Municipal Theatre, the Rybna Palace and the Raciborski Cultural Centre. The program of this year's edition included, among others: Jan Garbarek, Chris Potter, Wojtek Mazolewski, Deep Forest, Anna Maria Jopek, Adam Makowicz, Marcin Wasilewski Trio and Maciej Obara and Mathias Eick. Next to them, there will also be premiere projects and artists who will perform for the first time in front of a palm-jazz audience.
Its creator and artistic director Krzysztof Kobyliński is responsible for the artistic shape of the festival. Each edition is the result of his personal musical choices and consistently realized artistic vision. It is arranged like a well-composed concert — the individual events complement each other, creating a coherent story of music that defies simple definitions.
We invite you to the XVII PalmJazz Festival.
