Christie Dashiell

One of the most interesting singers of contemporary jazz, Christie Dashiell, will perform at Blue Note Poznań, presenting material from her acclaimed album Journey in Black.

The artist impresses not only with her unique vocal technique and freedom of improvisation, but also with her compositional maturity, which makes her one of the most original voices of the American jazz scene today.

Born in Washington and raised in North Carolina, Christie Dashiell grew up in a musical family — she is the daughter of esteemed jazz double bassist Carol Dashiell Jr. Singing accompanied her from an early age, and a rich musical heritage is clearly heard in her work. Her hallmarks are impressive improvisational skills, virtuoso scat and warm, extremely clear timbre of voice.

Over the last few years, Dashiell has collaborated with leading figures in contemporary jazz, including Terri Lyne Carrington, Stefon Harris, Lakecia Benjamin, Marcus Strickland and producer Adam Blackstone. Through these projects, she has established herself as an artist who moves with equal freedom between classical jazz, soul and contemporary sounds.

Her second album Journey in Black was enthusiastically received by critics, earning a rare maximum rating of five stars in DownBeat magazine. The album consists of seven original compositions and two new arrangements, addressing the themes of freedom, heritage, loss and joy. It is a personal story that combines the tradition of jazz with the influences of soul and gospel music into a coherent, emotional whole.

She is accompanied on stage by a band of distinguished musicians, including Romeir Mendez, Allyn Johnson, Carroll “CV” Dashiell III, organist Shedrick Mitchell and trumpeter Marquis Hill. Together they create a concert full of groove, swing, deep expression and musical sensitivity, presenting Christie Dashiell as an artist who combines tradition with the modern language of jazz with extraordinary naturalness.
