The painter Alessandro Moretto, who lives and works in Brescia, shows a clearly legible visual language in his monumental Adoration of the Shepherds, by far the largest picture in the painting gallery. Overcome paganism in the form of a fallen statue is shown as well as the sacrifice of Christ in the bound lamb in the foreground is anticipated. Yet the silvery light is typical of the painter.
Speakers: Prof. Dr. Alessandra Galizzi Krögel, University of Trento and Prof. Dr. Ulrich Engel OP, Chenu Institute
The interdisciplinary series of events “Christian Picture Viewing” usually takes place once a month — except for the summer break — and is a cooperation between the St. Matthäus Foundation and the Gemäldegalerie der Staatliche Museen zu Berlin. In accordance with the calendar of the church year, selected paintings are discussed and presented for discussion by an art historian and a theologian.
Please note: The number of participants is limited to 50 people.
Tickets are available from 3:30pm at the ticket office in the lobby. A maximum of two tickets can be issued per person.
Participation is free of charge.
