Pieter Pietersz. 'early Northern Dutch group portrait of the Amsterdam publishing family Laurens Jacobsz. (around 1590) combines Reformed piety with bourgeois representation. However, it is not the actual place of residence of the family, but an ideal scene that is the scene of instruction, Bible reading and writing practice, as well as good housewives.
Speakers: Dr. Stephan Kemperdick, Gemäldegalerie Berlin and Prof. Dr. Johann Hinrich Claussen, Humboldt University of Berlin
The interdisciplinary series of events “Christian Picture Viewing” usually takes place once a month — except for the summer break — and is a cooperation between the St. Matthäus Foundation and the Gemäldegalerie der Staatliche Museen zu Berlin. In accordance with the calendar of the church year, selected paintings are discussed and presented for discussion by an art historian and a theologian.
Participation is free of charge. No registration required.
The “Christian Picture Viewing” takes place in the Kulturforum lecture hall.
