About the event

with dance, drama and music for children aged 4 and over and adults

Lev Tolstoy, who otherwise rarely stayed under a thousand pages, also wrote a few enchanting miniature stories for children, essences of only about ten lines. They touch on fundamental themes of existence in a humorous and moving way: connection, responsibility and love, but also loneliness, pain and death are not omitted.

With elementary things such as straw, wool, soil or bread dough, a dancer and an actress bring these Tolstoic pearls to life. With lots of music and humor, they play and dance the various characters — children, a grandmother, even a dog and a bird — and dive into their seemingly small stories. “ciacconna clox” brings to the stage a production that presents a handful of short stories by Lew Tolstoy in a crisp 45 minutes — and that with the simplest, most elementary means of theatre, which, under the direction of Stefan Ebeling by actress Katja Rogner and dancer Anna Städler, are awakened to an enchanting play of small details. Rogner and Städler create images, moments, and atmospheres in which the audience is skilfully and unobtrusively involved. What Rogner tells in sentences that are always limited to the bare essentials and presents in precise gestures is visualized by Städler with her dance; she transforms it into another language, which nonetheless enters into a dialogue with Rogner as well as with the materials on stage (soil, wool, apples...).” (Steffen Georgi, LVZ)

About the company ciacconna clox: “With often tiny but all the more sophisticated means, ciacconna clox creates children's theatre at a high level. In contrast to everyday sensory overload and showmanship, the company focuses on unobtrusively strong and poetic images that have an enormous effect, especially in simplicity. Ciacconna Clox puts viewers through a lot of things without losing contact with them. Children are taken seriously, challenged in their imagination. The focus is on dance, but the company always works with artists from other genres. The fact that theatre does not limit itself to language but appeals to all senses makes it a total work of art that seeks creative closeness to children and adults without harassing or even making fun of them.”
