Cinemateket 30 years: Trainspotting

Danny Boyle's wild, madcap and virtuosic 1990s hit, based on a novel gem by Irvine Welsh, is as provocative as it is entertaining -- and packed with bold music, refined movie tricks and believable acting. In Edinburgh, a handful of friends spend most of the time hanging out, going to parties and taking colossal amounts of drugs. For Renton (Ewan McGregor in his breakthrough role), it all becomes too much, and he tries to detoxify himself and turn his back on the environment. But it turns out to be far harder than it seems.
