City of the Sun may live in Brooklyn, New York, but their genre-breaking music flows like the tide across borders. They weave together a musical mosaic that draws on a global variety of sounds and cultures. Shades of indie rock, Latin American folk, blues and world music carry the weight of their stories and memories, opening up entire landscapes.
City of the Sun creates music that feels both intimate and cinematic — like a movie to step into. Since debuting in 2016 with 'To The Sun and All the Cities in Between', over their 2020 self-titled album and 2022's 'Segunda Alma', the band has built a dedicated cult following worldwide.
Their new album, 'Under the Moon', marks a comeback and feels like stepping out of the shadows and into a new sunlight. Produced alongside the legendary Phil Ek (Fleet Foxes, Father John Misty and Built to Spill), the album moves through different moods and geographies: the undulating surf vibe of “Angeles”, the muted spaghetti western atmosphere of “Bajo la Luna”, the pulse of desert rock in “Ciudad del Sol” and the Mediterranean-inspired sway of “Hotel Alma”.
What City of the Sun creates is more than instrumental music. It's a language in itself -- a language that listeners across continents intuitively understand. Their stories shine through in the rhythmic fire of guitarist John Pita's Ecuadorian roots, in drummer Zach Paras's pulsating percussion and in the global musical perspectives that guitarist Marco Bolfelli and bassist Matt Fasano bring to the band's ever-evolving sound. 'Under the Moon' is both a mirror of their shared journey and a harbinger of what lies ahead.
