The colored silk belt could have been several meters long. How was it tied and why did it occupy such an important place in the attire of the Polish nobility? How was delia different from contus? Why do you like yellow shoes? What did the dress say about the man?
We will look at portraits of nobles and look for details that are easy to miss at first glance.
We will talk about the Sarmatian culture and its relations with the East. We will find out why the Polish nobility considered the ancient Sarmatians to be their ancestors and how this belief influenced their idea of themselves.
During the workshop we will be inspired by the colors and ornaments of old fabrics and contour belts. We will learn the basics of dry felting and create our own patterns from colored wool.
The meeting is part of the educational and interpretive program for the temporary exhibition “Bogate y jedwabne. Contour belts from the collection of the Wawel Royal Castle”.
