For more than a decade and a half, Béatrice Martin, better known as Cœur de Pirate, has been one of the most influential voices in French-Canadian pop music. Her career began almost casually, with a few songs on MySpace — intimate sketches that seemed more like secret diary entries than a debut. But her unmistakable timbre, this mixture of melancholy clarity and youthful defiance, quickly spread beyond Quebec: within a few months, Martin was an international name, her first album hit the charts, both in Europe and in North America.
Martin later explained openly that there was a fight behind this early lightness — against panic attacks, expectations, internal resistance. Her songs have always seemed like encrypted self-diagnoses in which hope, vulnerability and defiance are closely intertwined. The musician, who played the piano at the conservatory as a child, composed the soundtracks, ventured into purely instrumental music and repeatedly had to rearrange her life, has become accustomed not to hide her private life but to transform it into art. Perhaps that explains their tremendous response. Cœur de Pirate gives its listeners the feeling of witnessing a very personal, sometimes painfully honest process.
When she returns with “En Cavale,” many things seem like a new beginning and at the same time like a return to what has made her famous. On stage, she combines the fragile intimacy of her early pieces with a self-confident, almost glowing pop that has become bigger, clearer, more physical. The new concerts are carefully staged journeys through moods and musical chapters: an interplay of quiet moments on the piano and powerful passages in which Martin takes on stage dancing. It is an art that does not conceal its biographical breaks, but transforms them into energy. An invitation to be carried away by sound, gestures and light for an hour and a half. In autumn 2026, Cœur de Pirate is coming to Germany for three concerts. A rare, all the more urgent promise of an evening that you won't soon forget.
