Come from Away | Relax Scene

On September 11, 2001, the world stood still for a moment. After the closure of American airspace, several dozen aircraft were forced to make emergency landings in different corners of the world. Among them were 38 machines that went to the small Canadian town of Gander in Newfoundland. More than 7,000 passengers — people of different nationalities, faiths and cultures — suddenly found themselves in a place they had never heard of before.

The inhabitants of Gander and the surrounding villages, without thinking for a moment, opened their homes, schools and hearts to newcomers. For five days, they hosted strangers, sharing with them everything they had — from warm meals and clothes, to words of encouragement and a hearty smile. In these difficult times, friendships were formed for life, and the human good showed its greatest strength.

The story of the residents of Gander and the passengers “detained” in this town inspired Irene Sankoff and David Hein to create the musical. Its premiere turned out to be a huge success. The show has been awarded many times. He has received, among others, the Tony Award for Best Director, the prestigious Olivier Awards and the Drama Desk Award for Best Musical, and many other distinctions.

The Polish premiere of COME FROM AWAY was under the honorary patronage of Her Excellency Catherine Godin, Ambassador of Canada to Poland and the Polish-Canadian Chamber of Commerce.
