“Daughters of King Lear” - Teatr Mały w Tychy | SKT performance

“Daughters of King Lear” is a play inspired by William Shakespeare's “King Lear”, “Daughters of Lear” by Elaine Feinstein and “The Book of Apocrypha” by Karel Čapek.

The story, told from the perspective of Gonerilla, Regana and Cordelia — three daughters of King Lear — is an attempt to take a fresh look at Shakespearean tragedy and take a deeper look at the relationships between the characters known from the literary canon, to learn about their complex characters, motivations and psychology.

How does it happen that a person becomes evil? Are sons better than daughters? Can love be measured?

Shakespearean drama told from the perspective of King Lear's three daughters — Gonerilla, Regana and Cordelia. This is a story about the family, about the relationship between daughters and father. A father who is a king, anointed by God, so he thinks he has divine rights. About attempts to contact the eternally absent mother and longing for the lost beloved nanny. It is a story about lack, absence, the need for closeness, the feeling of inadequacy, of love and hate.

Who's the victim here? Lear or his daughters? Or maybe everyone?
