Bodies as code, bodies as commodities, bodies as battlefields. In a world in which the real and the invented flow together and distort our perception, as part of its performance evening “Beyond Imagining” at HAU Hebbel am Ufer, the 3HD festival presents performances that follow a pop culture script and uncover the facts behind the fictions.

From dancehall and puppetry to shock rock and a drugged soap opera, the two-day event brings together artists whose work shakes the conventions and contradictions of public imagination.

Charlie Osborne's “He Must Have Been Like 6ft 3,” a shock rock essay concert in which an imposing figure in Superman pajamas reinterprets the feeling of romance. Eunju Hong expands and adapts her widely existing performance “She Seemed Devastated, When I Was Weeping With Joy” for HAU2, drawing on traditional East Asian puppetry and modelling a life-size, 3D-printed image of her own face and body. Harald Beharie's “Batty Juice” — a new duet version of the solo “Batty Bwoy” from 2022, which was first presented by Creamcake — addresses stuck narratives around the theme of deviation in an odyssey of booming prog rock. With her drag king persona “COLOMBIANIZACIÓN,” Nadia Granados questions the way violence is aesthetized, consumed and conveyed in Colombian “narco soap operas,” music videos and gangster rap. “Jelly-Cake” artist Lila Steinkampf serves particularly tasty treats, while music producer Sin Maldita plays throughout the evening between performances.

The evening combines performances from different perspectives: Each invites the audience to recognize and overcome prejudices and prejudices that not only shape but also distort our perception of reality.
