About the event

In 2027, the Lutosławski Quartet celebrates the twentieth anniversary of working together. On this occasion, one of the NFM bands, belonging to the most important string quartets in Poland, has prepared and will premiere on this day a project entitled Crossing. There is no doubt that it will be inscribed in the annals of music — not only classical!

Lutosławski Quartet currently consists of cellists Roksana Kwaśnikowska and Marcin Markowicz, violinist Artur Rozmysłowicz and cellist Maciej Młodawski. But the cards in the history of this group were also written by other outstanding musicians. The role of the first violinist was played in the past by Jakub Jakowicz and Bartosz Woroch. They are all still collaborating with each other, as evidenced by the album released by NFM in 2025 with compositions by Ernest Chausson. The chamber ensemble, which is well known to the public, decided to celebrate its anniversary, as befits artists who defy the templates. The proposed Crossing concept combines traditional forms of music-making and classical workshop with modern creative practices. Lutosławski Quartet will reach out to various forms of expression: from jazz, through improvisation, to electronics. Thus, a string quartet concert will no longer turn out to be just a conventional ritual, in which four virtuosos present a series of closed pieces. Thanks to the use of synthesizers, loopers, guitars, mandolins and percussion instruments such as kalimba or tongue drum, performers will become composers (as they used to be), and the work — the fruit of an open creative process.

Crossing is also a dialogue with the quartet's 20-year history: selected themes and sound ideas from past concerts and projects will be processed and transformed in a new sound context. It is not a reconstruction, but a creative reinterpretation of his own achievements, constituting a form of musical autobiography. This unique project was commissioned by the NFM, in whose history Lutosławski Quartet activity is such an important, still ongoing chapter.
