About the event

“I spent the worst night of my life with Felix, otherwise I can fully recommend him privately and professionally.” (Marc-Uwe Kling)

After Mic Drop, Mic is passed on: With the crossover Slam Berlin, slam legend Felix Römer continues the principle of poetry slam as presenter. His idea, which has long since become an institution among Berlin's curated open mic stages: Different disciplines compete against each other to win the audience's favor. From poetry to music to artistry, comedy, karate or magic — all of this can and should be admired and judged with applause. It's less about competition and more about the fun of presenting yourself and your art, watching the other talents and having a great time together.

Thanks to this principle, Crossover Slam Berlin regularly and traditionally creates very varied and unpredictable evenings, during which professionals, debutants and sometimes even real stars play the microphone. Sometimes with advance notice, sometimes without. Till Reiners, Siegfried & Joy, Henning May (AnnenMayKantereit), Fee Brembeck, Kirsten Fuchs, FALK and Florian Hacke have already participated.

And the host? He knows what he's doing there: Felix Römer was a poetry slammer from the very beginning. He has driven back and forth across the entire Republic and appeared in countless slams, knows the scene from the start and has helped shape it in pioneering work. In 2007, for example, he won the German-language poetry slam championship in team competition — and thus at a time when today's show greats such as Nico Semsrott, Hazel Brugger, Felix Lobrecht or Till Reiners were still unknown greenbeaks who didn't even have their stories and punchlines there had thrown into the ring.

Römer is also an author, winner of the German Cabaret Prize (with Luksan Wunder), presenter, organizer, musician (with night colors), even the legal owner of a platinum record (as a songwriter for AnnenMayKantereit) — and a person who brings other people together. On, behind and in front of the stage.

In the individual competition of the Poetry Slam Championship 2006, Römer was “only” second — behind a certain Marc-Uwe Kling. In his podcast “Writing & Shredding,” in turn, the public-shy cult comic artist Walter Moers (“Adolf”, “Das kleine Arschloch”, “Käpt'n Blaubär” and many more) had Römer present his answer. Moers' freely transmitted approval rating: “Great voice, great guy. Just like me! ”

In return, Kling hasn't made it to the Crossover Slam Berlin as a guest until today, but has wanted to do it for years. Meaning: Maybe the kangaroo inventor will be there as a surprise guest next time. Or the next time after that. And even if not, you will probably discover talented newcomers at Crossover Slam Berlin, about whom you too will be able to say one day: “I've already seen them in the ufaFabrik when he/she was still a secret tip! ”
