Place: Warsaw, Progresja
Something specific must be in the air of the Swedish town of Umeå, since such expressive bands as Meshuggah, Refused or just Cult of Luna were formed there. Already with their first albums they made quite a stir, and the landmark 2006 “Somewhere Along the Highway” secured them a place among the most important post-metal bands of our time. CoL cemented this status with other great releases - “Eternal Kingdom”, “Vertikal”, recorded with Julie Christmas “Mariner”, “A Dawn to Fear” and “The Long Road North”. On each of them, the band enriched its sound with further inspirations, among which you can detail hardcore, sludge, folk or art-rock, and all this brings together a huge dose of emotions.
The band's tenth studio album, “In the Shadow of Your Shadow”, will be released on November 6. The material is another proof that Cult of Luna is a band that hates stagnation. We will guest hear Joe Duplantier from Gojira and David Eugene Edwards from 16 Horsepower or Wovenhand.
In March, the Swedes will embark on a European tour, on which they will take with them the French Bruit and the American Youth Code. The first inspirations of Godspeed You! Black Emperor break with an unconventional approach to composition, experimenting with form and sound, which is well demonstrated by their latest album “The Age of Ephemerality”. The others let a lot of rage into their EBM, and last year they returned after a break of several years with the EP “Yours, With Malice”.
