“Gyganeria” of the Silesian Opera on the stage of the Silesian Theater.
In January, on the stage of the Silesian Theater, the Silesian Opera will present Giacomo Puccini's “Gyganeria” — one of the most outstanding and moving works of world opera literature. For more than a hundred years, the opera has been delighting the audience with the story of young Parisian artists, for whom dreams of love and art constantly collide with the hardships of everyday life.
The action takes place in 19th century Paris and focuses on the fates of the poet Rodolfo and the embroiderer Mimì. Their nascent affection, marked by poverty and disease, becomes the axis of a story of love, friendship, transience and hope. It is the combination of the simplicity of the story with the extraordinary power of the music that makes “Gyganeria” invariably one of the most staged opera titles in the world.
In the repertoire of the Silesian Opera, the performance occupies a special place — the current production refers to the esteemed staging of Lech Hellwig-Górzyński, preserving the classic character of the work and bringing out its timeless emotions. Thanks to this, the story of Mimì and Rodolfo continues to move generations of viewers.
