CYRULIK OF SEVILLE - Gioacchino Rossini

A masterful combination of comedy, musical finesse and timeless reflection on human nature — “Cyrulik of Seville” again on stage under Pegasus!

libretto: Cesare Sterbini

Gioacchino Rossini's most famous opera is a story full of energy, humor and musical virtuosity about love, cunning and the power of human imagination. Count Almaviva, enchanted by the beautiful Rozyna, does not intend to give in to adversity and - in order to win the heart of his beloved - he is ready for the most surprising metamorphoses - he becomes a poor student Lindor, disguises himself as a soldier looking for accommodation, and even plays the role of a music teacher. In the implementation of his plans, he is helped by the irreplaceable Figaro, a master of intrigue, ingenuity and brilliant solutions. Rossini's opera is like a film prequel, the story that precedes the events known from Mozart's “The Marriage of Figaro”. It is in “Cyrulik of Seville” that we meet Rozyna, who in time will become Countess Almaviva, and we learn how the story of her great love began. This time, however, the spotlight is not only on the vicissitudes of lovers. A special place is occupied by one of the most famous opera arias - “La calunnia”, or aria about gossip. With great precision and humor, Rossini shows how an innocent word can turn into a powerful force capable of destroying reputations, relationships and human destinies. “Cyruli of Seville” is one of the most frequently performed in opera houses around the world and is appreciated by the public, including spectators visiting the Teatr Wielki in Poznań, who appreciate the work for its intelligent intrigue, delightful arias and humorous dialogues.
