Black holes have always been fascinating, prompting us to ponder space, time and gravity—concepts that are difficult to explain, but whose nature and behavior play, and will continue to play, a fundamental role in the future of the cosmos. But... are black holes good for anything? What secrets do they hide inside?
Until a few decades ago, astronomers seriously pondered their existence. Today we know that black holes are objects in which there is an extreme curvature of space-time. They are holes in the sense that what “falls” into them, in principle, cannot get out of them. They are black, because not even light can escape from there. However, we still do not know the physical processes that take place inside them. Black holes are perhaps the most unusual objects in space — they are formed by the violent explosions of very massive stars, they curve space-time around themselves, absorb matter and produce gravitational waves that can be recorded on Earth. We know that black holes come in all sizes — from tiny and rapidly disappearing monsters to giant colossi with masses of millions of Suns hidden in the centers of galaxies. We still know very little about black holes. Unraveling their secrets is one of the most exciting challenges in human history. A challenge that will require the involvement of all the possibilities of our species and that will help us understand the past, present and future of this exciting place that is space.
Before the screening there is a seasonal live show conducted in Polish. Read about the shows.
The film has an audio description in Polish.
