The play “Magic Mountain. Coughing” is a theatre about young, contemporary people seeking escape from the overwhelming reality they inherit after the 20th century. The question around which the world is organized on the stage is the question of the dream: will the protagonists be able to free themselves from the yoke of excessively complicated reality, free from the fear of the future fueled by the media, the fear of the future and in the face of a multitude of stimuli will they undertake the struggle for individuality, fulfillment and dream; whether they will try to realize their potential, despite the intimidating but beautiful baggage of the “Magic Mountain”.
The protagonists are stuck in the isolated sanatorium “Berghof”, detained in time, illness and reflection on the fact that the reality of decline, which Tomasz Mann called, concerns them again. Overwhelmed with information, views, excess, bending under the baggage of the experience of the “Magic Mountain”, they recreate a situation designed more than a hundred years ago for other characters. You can leave the sanatorium on the way down, on a toboggan track, used to transport corpses to the lowlands; but you can also try the opposite route, which did not come to mind for Thomas Mann's patients - the way up, to the top, to a world other than the world war, the outbreak of which is the last and inevitable chapter of the novel. The play is an adaptation of Mann's world, operating with both pathos and humor. It tells both about the time that the protagonists cannot properly use; about the disease that is sometimes an escape and sometimes a basic state of the body; but above all it is a theater about liberation, dropping the burden and escaping forward, to the top, into the reality of a dream.
Attention! The show contains scenes that extremely explore the physiology of the human body and intense images of the state of the disease (including containing human secretions, intense grunting, nudity). The effect of intense smoke is also used in the performance. The performance may not be suitable for sensitive people and for people under 16 years of age.
