Elephant Man

The second half of the 19th century in Victorian England. A brilliant young surgeon, Frederick Treves (Anthony Hopkins), meets a man with an unusual deformation of the body, who, because of his appearance, is doomed to the humiliating life of a circus freak. He is suffering from a rare genetic disease, John Merrick (John Hurt), known to fairground audiences across the country as the “Elephant Man.” Dr. Treves, who first treated him as a normal man, fights to free Merrick from the misery of his environment and provide him with a dignified life.
