Man from Nowhere | ceremonial screening of the restored film

Silesia-Film Institute, Silesian Film Archive and Kino Kosmos invite you to a festive screening of the reconstructed and restored film by Józef Kłyk entitled “Man from Nowhere”.

“Man from Nowhere” is the first part of the trilogy of the Silesian western “Trail of Lawlessness” by Józef Kłyk — an amateur creator, a great lover of film, who has been making amateur film productions since 1967, the most famous of which are westerns.

Set between 1874 and 1881, the film tells the story of Wawrzyn Złotka, a blacksmith from Bojszów, who escapes to the American Wild West after beating a Prussian gendarme. He ends up in Texas, in the settlement of Virgo Maria, where his Silesian identity blends with the harsh reality of the American frontier. The film uniquely combines classical western mythology with the local history and culture of Upper Silesia.

The film, realized with great enthusiasm by the self-taught director and the local community, brought the creator the prestigious Journalists Award during the 9th Festival of Polish Feature Films in Gdansk. Józef Kłyk was honored for “reaching the roots of cinema and for outstanding artistic qualities”. The film aroused great surprise and admiration among professional filmmakers, because Józef Kłyk realized his ambitious productions on the theme of the Wild West using independent methods, shooting, among others, in the meadows of Bojszów with the participation of local residents.

Thanks to the efforts and meticulous work of the Silesian Film Archive in the reconstruction and restoration, the iconic Silesian Western has gained a new life! We invite you to a screening in unprecedented image and sound quality, which allows you to fully appreciate the visual ambition and artistry of Silesian cinema enthusiasts.

After the screening there will be a meeting with the legendary creator — Józef Kłyk. We will talk about the backstage of the making of the film, the prairies of the Boyz and the passion that was ahead of its era.

The meeting will be moderated by Anna Dudzińska, a well-known journalist from Radio Trójki, previously associated with Radio 357 and Radio Katowice.
