CHULOVSKY. BIRDS

IOC Olsztyn invites you to an exhibition of photographs by Piotr Czułowski, which is a subjective portrait of the region of Warmia and Masuria. Opening of the exhibition “Czułowski. Birds” will be held on October 9, 2026 at 18:00 at the Amfilada Gallery (3 Dąbrowszczaków Street).

Warmia and Masuria is a land that can be told in many ways — through lakes, forests, fields, rivers, cities and towns. You can also look at it from the perspective of those who have been here forever, although they often go almost unnoticed.

Birds do not know administrative boundaries, do not need signs or maps. Their presence sets its own rhythm of the place. It is this rhythm that Piotr Czułowski has been trying to capture in his photographs for more than a dozen years.

His nature photography was born from a passion for observation, over time becoming more than a search for spectacular shots. Czułowski has been cooperating with ornithologists from Warmia and Masuria for years, participating in field observations and activities for the protection of birds. For him, the camera is a tool for attentive observation of nature — from a distance and without interfering with its rhythm.

Behind a single photo are often hours spent in the chat room, in the cold, rain and silence. Waiting for light, movement, gesture. For a moment that will happen by itself. A good shot is never worth disturbing the peace of a photographed creature.

“CHULOVSKY. BIRDS” is not a catalog of species or an attempt to create a complete picture of the Warmian-Masurian avifauna. It is a record of meetings and a personal story about the region. About places that we know, but which we can look at differently - for a moment stopped in the frame.

In the Art Nouveau interiors of the Amfilada Gallery, photographs gain another context. So it is worth entering this exhibition without haste, stopping at a single photo and listening to the silence that stands behind each frame.

Piotr Czułowski — entrepreneur by profession, photographer by passion. He has been cooperating with local ornithologists for years, participating in fieldwork, monitoring and activities to protect the avifauna of the region. Member of the Polish Society for the Protection of Birds. In nature photography, he is guided by ethics and respect for nature, putting the well-being of birds and their environment above getting a dream shot.
