About the event

The artists of the famous Piwnica pod Baranami invite you to a concert entitled “Do you remember?” It is a musical and poetic tribute dedicated to Ewa Demarczyk and Markov Grechuta.

Opinion on the Piwnica pod Baranami concert in Wrocław (31.07.2026) The concert dedicated to the works of Ewa Demarczyk and Marek Grechuta was an interesting meeting with the repertoire belonging to the most beautiful achievements of Polish literary song. The performers deserve special recognition, especially the older artist singing “Peas and Roses”, whose interpretation was full of authenticity and maturity, and a young artist performing a piece that is a tribute to the Warsaw Uprising. These were the most moving moments of the evening for me. On the musical side, I lacked the sound of the cello, which would perfectly complement the character of the presented works. I also paid attention to the sound system — the bass guitar was in some places too loud in relation to the violin, which made their subtler parts lose their expressiveness. The visual setting left a certain dissatisfaction. Dark colors predominated — most of the performers performed in black outfits, only the costumes of some of the artists brought a little more color. The dark scenography and the formal character of the setting did not quite harmonize with the interpretations, in which humor, lightness and irony appeared. I had the impression that the visual layer did not fully reflect the spirit of the presented repertoire. The way of conducting the concert could also be more fluid. Although there were announcements and short anecdotes, the whole thing was based mainly on a repeating scheme: announcement - execution. I would love to hear more stories and freer transitions that would bind the next songs even more firmly into a coherent whole. Despite these remarks, it was a worthwhile evening, mainly due to the high level of performers. However, I believe that greater attention to the balance of sound and a better adaptation of the visual setting and dramaturgy of the concert to the nature of the works of Ewa Demarczyk and Marek Grechuta would allow to fully bring out the unique atmosphere of this repertoire.

The concert lasts about two hours, and many songs are performed during the performance. Unfortunately, despite the rich repertoire, the performances do not evoke as much delight or energy as one would expect from a ticketed concert.
