Is it possible to arrange a friendship? And what if the contract is made by a boy with a certain old man, and they become granddaughter and grandfather for each other? Is such a deal the beginning of a real relationship? In an intimate performance for two actors, we learn an adventurous story about friendship over generations. In this unique story, ordinary moments of joy and modest madness make the world around the heroes take on color, and when the time of parting comes, memories remain. Memories of how it was fun to fly kites together, learn to whistle, climb trees and pluck cherries.

In the performance, the actors use 3 types of dolls: puppets, gloves and tintamareski. The show in its form resembles a comic book aesthetic.

The play is a stage adaptation of the book by Ulf Stark — one of Sweden's most respected authors of children's literature.

A show for viewers since 5 years.

Anna Czajkowska — “Grandfather on the Cherry Tree”

The stage “Liliput” of Warsaw's Guliwer Puppet Theater, opened at the beginning of the 2018/2019 season, has already “settled down” for good in the headquarters of the children's theater. The pleasant, intimate space appeals to small spectators, sitting on cushions at the stage itself — small, more conventional than clearly marked. Here, a variety of experiments and adventure with the senses become real, and interactive performances, requiring active participation in the performance, allow you to explore new worlds during fascinating fun. The actors are at your fingertips and seem so close that you can talk to them as if you were friends. Thanks to this, difficult topics, shown and played in a safe environment, cease to be scary or incomprehensible. On the other hand, for staging authors and artists, the “microscene” is a challenge, but certainly also the joy of creating and an inspiring opportunity to touch minimalism in dramaturgy. Two actors — Anna Przygoda and Tomasz Kowol — fascinated by the book by Swedish author Ulf Stark “Can You Whistle, Joanna?” He faces such a creative challenge. The directorial duo transferred the piece to theatrical, “liliputian” boards and thus a funny story was created about friendship, the need for closeness, about the inevitable turns of fate, old age, death, as well as the most beautiful and sad farewells.
