For the first time, the audience can experience Cæcilie Norby at the Royal Theatre's Old Stage when she gives a concert on 18 October 2026 to mark the 30th anniversary of her releases on the acclaimed jazz label Blue Note Records.
The releases on Blue Note not only marked the beginning of her solo career, but also constitute a key chapter in her international work. As the first Scandinavian vocalist, she was signed by Bruce Lundvall, who fell for her ability to reconcile the freedom of jazz with the melodic warmth of pop in an early crossover expression. A term which since became part of Blue Note's success with artists such as Norah Jones and Cassandra Wilson.
The four albums — Cæcilie Norby (1995), My Corner of the Sky (1996), Queen of Bad Excuses (2000) and First Conversation (2002) — all received strong reviews both in Denmark and internationally. In the years following, Norby toured extensively in Europe, the United States and Japan.
When Cæcilie Norby takes Gamle Scene this evening, it is on familiar ground. As a child, she stayed behind the scenes as her mother, the opera singer Solveig Lumholt, often sang lead roles such as Mimi in La Bohème and the title party in Madame Butterfly.
“I was told at the time that I wasn't allowed to make a sound -- now I've come to give this magical scene my sound,” Norby recounts.
The concert presents tracks from her Blue Note repertoire — a tribute to her own artistic journey. From heartfelt ballads to groove-based tracks, Cæcilie Norby will share her warmth and versatility, where it will be clear why she is one of Denmark's most beloved and distinctive vocalists.
With her she has an all-star band made up of some of the country's finest musicians.
