'Les statues meurent aussi' is a 1953 French essay film directed by Alain Resnais, Chris Marker and Ghislain Cloquet about historical African art and the ways in which colonialism has determined how it is perceived. The censorship authorities refused the film public viewing, primarily because of its anti-colonialist message, but a cropped edition was finally broadcast in 1964. The film's problems remain as topical as ever.
