Give Fire “Music of the Imaginary Village”

Frozen Baltic, wooden inn in the middle. It's semi-dark inside, smoke billows, and the air vibrates from sounds that sound both disturbingly familiar and utterly exotic. This is a foretaste of what awaits us soon in Firlej. Give Fire brings to Wrocław the project “Music of the Imaginary Village”.

We wander between Poland and Scandinavia, playing on dance buddies, stipes and sacred groves. On the way, we stop at painted gates in taverns on the frozen Baltic Sea. We play under the feet and to the imagination of people from under the thatch and from under the asbestos tile.

The musicians of Give Fire themselves best define their work in a unique, poetic way. It is this duality — the suspension between romantic phantasm and harsh reality — that forms the backbone of the band's identity. Their sound, often boxed as dark folk or alternative folk, is born out of a longing for a place that never existed, but that subtly each of us remembers. It is an imaginary, primordial village full of melancholy and mystical trance.

Give Fire certainly stands out from other bands with its instrumentation. On stage we will hear traditional Scandinavian string lyres, hoop drums or bagpipes, and this is just the beginning of this archaic instrumentarium.

All this set creates a tissue that immediately captivates you to dance. This is not a historical reconstruction. Musicians create raves of bygone times, showing that trance electronic music has its roots deep in the earth and tradition.

Give Fire concerts are a total experience that goes far beyond the scope of a regular performance. The ensemble is famous for its huge, almost theatrical performance and extremely intense stage narration. Each piece is another story and a dose of wild energy that is instantly given to the audience. Musicians regularly mesmerize the audience at the biggest festivals in Europe — from the Lithuanian Mėnuo Juodaragis, through the Czech Baraban Etnofest, to the native Festival of Slavs and Vikings in Wolin or Etnokrakow/Roz.
